Our CEO David Brennan shared his experience of international recruitment with The Weekly SOURCE.

In March, our Chief Executive Officer, David Brennan, contributed to an article published by The Weekly SOURCE about international recruitment and the workforce shortages facing Australia’s aged care sector.

Published on 11 March 2026, the article explored why many Australian aged care providers remain cautious about international recruitment, despite ongoing workforce shortages across the sector.

David shared Huon Regional Care’s experience of employing 10 staff from India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines through The Migration Agency.

The article reported that Huon Regional Care had been spending $1.5 million each year on agency staff, with hourly rates reaching up to $260. Following a six figure investment in international recruitment, agency nursing now accounts for less than eight per cent of total salary costs.

David encouraged other aged care providers considering international recruitment to be proactive, understand their workforce needs and learn about the available visa options.

“Map out your talent needs and understand your visa options. Don’t wait too long to act.”

His contribution showed how international recruitment can provide a sustainable response to workforce shortages, particularly for regional aged care providers.
