Support at Home FAQs

The Support at Home program is a great option if you want to stay independent and keep living safely at home with ongoing, tailored support.

It suits people who:

  • Need more complex or ongoing care
  • Need a wider range of services
  • Would benefit from a Care Advisor to help coordinate their support

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 65 or over
  • 50 or over if you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Your eligibility is decided through a federal aged care assessment.
  • Once approved, you will be given a Support at Home package level based on the amount of care you need.

The Support at Home program offers a wide range of services so you can continue to live well at home and stay healthy, active and connected.

You will:

  • Have access to an approved list of services
  • Be supported to choose or change the mix of services that suit your needs and budget

There are eight Support at Home service levels, each with a government-funded budget. Your level is decided during your aged care assessment.

You can apply through My Aged Care.

Call 1800 200 422 and explain what help you need. My Aged Care will:

  • Take your details
  • Arrange an in-home assessment
  • Decide whether you are eligible for CHSP or Support at Home
  • Give you referral codes so you can choose your provider
If you meet the requirements for Home Care, My Aged Care will refer you for an assessment.

An assessor will usually visit you in your home. During this visit, they will talk with you about your needs and decide which level of support is right for you.
