Volunteer with us

Volunteers make a difference to the lives of the older people we support.

We have a growing team of volunteers who generously donate their time in various ways.

We rely on volunteers to offer their time and skills to help us deliver our much-needed services. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, contribute to the community, help others and gain experience.

Anyone over the age of 18 can volunteer. From students and seniors to board members, professionals and people from all backgrounds, we welcome you to join our team.

You will be guided through an onboarding process, where you will receive training, information about your responsibilities as a volunteer and assistance from our team to ensure you feel comfortable in your new role.

We value and celebrate the contribution our volunteers make to the lives of our residents and clients. Enjoy being supported in your role as you support those who need it most.

Where do we operate?

We have volunteering opportunities across Southern Tasmania, including at our residential care homes in Dover, Franklin and Tasman.
We are always looking for new volunteers, so if you are interested in making a difference in the lives of older people, register your interest using the link below.

Volunteering Options

Lifestyle activities and entertainment

Volunteers make a valuable contribution at our residential care homes, supporting the day-to-day lifestyle activities and community connections that bring joy and events to life.

Social connections and companionship

Support the social connection goals of older people through one to one companionship.

Volunteers help individuals engage in the activities they enjoy. This may include having a conversation, taking a walk together, sharing a cup of coffee, singing, listening to music or enjoying a hobby together.

Whatever way you can help, your time and companionship can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

Office administration

Volunteer opportunities may also be available behind the scenes to support our operations. In some cases, volunteering can even be the first step into a new career pathway.

Outings and community connections

Volunteers can support older people to remain connected with their local community through outings, events and social activities.

Tech support

Support older people to connect and live independently through learning their preferred technology.

Hear from our Volunteers

I began volunteering because Huon Regional Care cared for my parents for many years, and I wanted to give something back to a place that meant so much to my family.

What I enjoy most are the simple moments, taking residents outside for fresh air, a short walk and a good chat. Seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing them say, ‘isn’t this great’, makes my time here feel very special.

Kathy Cane

HRC Volunteer

I started volunteering because I was new to Huon Valley and wanted to contribute, meet local people and learn from them.

What I enjoy most is the time we share together. Sometimes we talk, laugh, walk, sit quietly or simply look outside together. Every visit is different, and I always learn something new.

I feel privileged to be welcomed into people’s lives and hear their stories. At Huon Regional Care, I feel safe, valued and part of a great team.

Jan Hoar

HRC Volunteer

I enjoy volunteering because I like being around people, having conversations and learning about their life experiences.’

I spend time with residents through walks, reading, scrabble, bingo, bus outings and appointments. For me, volunteering is about showing up, sharing time and helping create moments of connection.
